Mark & Sheena Horton with George Clarke
The Restoration Man • Bath Lodge (Part 1)
In March 2010 Liberty Contracts featured in the Channel 4 documentary
The Restoration Man with award winning architect George Clarke.
Mark Hortons Bath Lodge project was documented from start to completion
by George and the team when they began filming back in 2008.
Mark took on the ambitious ressurection of the property near Ormskirk in Lancashire which had enjoyed a colourful past.
The lodge was originally built towards the end of the 17th century, when Charles Stanley, brother of the Earl of Derby, opened a cold water bath.
Later, it was used as hunting lodge perhaps for nearby Cross Hall.
Abandoned since the 1940s, Bath Lodge had no access road or utilities and was surrounded by boggy farmland, making build conditions medieval.
During the restoration, the project was also hit with a big blow.
Mark suffered a heart attack and had to undergo major surgery.
“It was very stressful, I was out of action but a few weeks but I didn’t let that stop me.”
